SYNOPSIS
SYNOPSIS
A shy girl. An outrageous offer. And a bargain that paints a target on her back.
ADELIE
With my house in foreclosure, I need a job in the worst way. Modeling isn’t anything I ever thought I’d do, but the smoking hot billionaire owner of Wonderland insists I’ll make the perfect Alice for his theme park’s rebrand.
He’s offering an insane amount of money, so I agree...even if there are risks involved.
MADDOX
I’m only out to save my theme park. I didn’t realize getting so close to Adelie put her in peril. Someone from my past wants to take down Wonderland, and they don’t care that Adelie is in the way.
I up the ante, chancing everything to keep her safe. Too bad that right now, I’m the most dangerous person she can be around.
Can we find out who’s trying to sabotage Wonderland and keep Adelie safe?
If you like the searing charm of Anne-Marie Meyer and the heroic romance of Cami Checketts, you’ll love the sweet romance, edge-of-your-seat stakes, and fairytale feel of this engaging series.
Buy ALICE AND THE BILLIONAIRE’S WONDERLAND, a fairytale retelling with suspense, to see how Adelie and Maddox prove whether or not true love really conquers all.
“You’re sleeping in my room,” I told her as soon as I got off the phone with Hawk.
Adelie placed both of her feet, which had been tucked beneath her, on the floor.
“Uh—what?”
“Please.” I knelt in front of her. “We don’t have to share my bed—although, it’s big enough you could be on one side, and I’d be on the other and we’d never know it.”
“I’m a floppy sleeper,” she said. “I’ll probably cross the border without a passport.”
“I am!”
I placed my phone on the floor and stopped her shaking knees with my hands. Adelie looked at me then.
“I’ll risk the leg toss,” I said. “Sleep with me.”
Her eyes widened. She inhaled. Sharply.
Well, that was right out there.
I sank back and cleared my throat while flames blasted my face.
“Ahem. In my room, I mean. Please.”
I eyed her. I wasn’t sure what I’d been thinking in that moment, but she was probably right. My thoughts were still on the whole leg thing.
“Fine,” she said on a breath, as if releasing some of her adrenaline with it. “We’ll draw an invisible line that you can’t cross, buster.”
She poked my chest with her finger--and I hoped that was a promise I could keep.

Adelie
There was no other option—I had to rock this interview.
My hands rested in my lap. I sat pristinely in the seat and met my interviewer’s eyes with contact, people.
Eye. Contact.
That was a question he should ask me—just how long it had taken me to be able to master the skill of looking people in the eye.
Years, okay? It had taken me years to be able to lift my head and look at someone when they talked to me. So to me, this interview was already a success.
If only that was enough to get me this job.
The man sitting behind the desk was a little overweight and unshowered—considering the greasy look in his dark hair and the amount of dirt under his fingernails.
He looked like the hijacker from the episode of Forensic Dispatch Suzie and I watched last night.
That gave me pause. Viewing the man interviewing you for a job you didn’t even want as the villain in a high-profile crime scene was probably not the best approach.
He adjusted his T-shirt and stared at the clipboard in his hands a few moments before looking back at me again. His eyes scaled to my bare knees at the end of my professional-looking business suit. The corners of his mouth twitched upward.
I may have overdressed to interview for a place like Javelin Recycling, but it was always better to do too much than not enough. Even so, his gaze lingered on my legs a little too long.
Guess I wasn’t the only one who needed to work on eye contact right about now.
“Adelie,” he said, interlocking his fingers and smiling as he lazily dragged his gaze up my body to meet mine again. “Tell me about yourself.”
Go time.
Except this was the worst question. It was far too broad. There was so much about me, I didn’t have a definitive starting point, and—thanks to his ogling moments before—my mind went completely blank.
“I’m a student at the University of Vermont,” I began, trying to work through answers I’d practiced. Ella and Suzie had done several mock interviews with me just so I could feel extra prepared.
“Cool.”
His eyes raked to my bare knees again.
I shifted. Uncomfortably.
“What are you studying?”
“Nursing.
“And why are you interested in working at Javelin? Do you believe fate brought you here?”
I gaped at him, completely thrown.
“Umm…”
Fate? What did that have to do with a factory that recycled plastic water bottles?
This was usually the part of the interview where you were supposed to show how passionate you were about whatever position you were trying for. Not that I had anything against this job, but I was NOT passionate about working at a smelly recycling plant.
I needed money. I’d prefer something that could reflect well on a resume once I completed my nursing degree, but most places required experience, which I didn’t yet have.
Since I’d failed to gain a position everywhere else I’d tried, I was here.
That was why I was interested in this job.
“I care about the earth and its ecosystem,” I said, giving the response I’d practiced with Suzie and Ella.
“I like you,” the interviewer said, nodding with approval.
Unflattering redness climbed his cheeks. Then he coughed, fidgeted, and pulled on his collar.
Sketchy. The villain in that episode last night had acted superficial, too. Ugh—STOP thinking of him as the villain. This is not a crime show!
“I mean, that. I like that. That’s a great answer. Sorry, having you here and looking so hot, you’re just throwing me a little off right now.”
His eyes scaled over me. Again.
I uncrossed my legs and sat up straighter in my chair, pulling my skirt down as far as it would go, which was only mid-thigh. I suddenly wished I had worn something else.
Like a hazmat suit.
He glanced at his clipboard and cleared his throat.
“What are your biggest strengths and…” His eyes roved again. “Weaknesses?”
I’d never been in an interview where I hoped I didn’t get the job.
“You know.” I squirmed under his gaze as my discomfort amplified.
Now that I knew why he kept looking at me that way—and that it had nothing to do with my knees being a good candidate for the job—I wanted to get out of here as quickly as possible.
“I’m not interested in the job anymore.”
“No?” He set the clipboard down on the table beside him and laughed. Laughed!
He licked his lips and jutted his chin toward the door behind me. The very closed door. “Alrighty then. Let’s talk about what else you might be interested in.”
Barf.
